About

Bristol Law Society (BLS) is a large local law society with a membership in the region of 7500 and is the oldest local law society in the country being founded in 1770.

It has an innovative and collaborative approach to working within and outside the legal profession and is at the forefront of many initiatives, both national and regional. The Society has 2 staff who work remotely but spending time in Bristol each week to meet with members and putting on our wide range of events open to members and non-members.

Governance

The Society is governed by a President, two Vice Presidents, other officers and a Council of solicitors. Council members come from a variety of backgrounds, large and small firms, in-house and private practice and cover all areas of legal work in order to reflect the  profession as a whole.  In addition, we also have a number of special interest committees which local lawyers can join. All roles are on a volunteer basis.

Services

Bristol Law Society provides a range of services to its members  including an annual programme of courses, seminars and webinars, social and business development events and a local jobs board. We also have a number of special interest committees which local lawyers can join. All roles are on a volunteer basis.

Events

Throughout the year an increasing number of events is organised for members including events with and for non lawyers, professional dinners with the decision makers of the local firms, quizzes, a Summer Party, and our flagship Annual Awards Dinner plus a wide range of educational conferences and workshops. These events are both very successful and well attended. They are not only fun but also offer the opportunity for members to meet and network with others within and outside the profession.
