21st Century Justice Project Green Paper – Law Society Call for Feedback

Background

On 9 October, the Law Society published the 21^st Century Justice Project Green Paper, ‘Proposals for a 21^st Century Justice system’. The paper sets out a set of proposed reforms to the civil justice system to enhance access to justice for small businesses and those on low/middle incomes. It is the culmination of work that the Law Society has undertaken over the past year with committee members, legal services consumers and a range of stakeholders including academics, justice NGOs, Law Tech and small business and consumer organisations.

Call for wider feedback

The 21^st Century Justice project team is now seeking wider feedback on the proposals to help it refine them further and produce a White Paper which will be published in Spring 2024. It has posed 20 questions throughout the Green Paper and is asking for responses by 5 January 2024.

Please share the Green Paper and encourage your relevant committees and wider membership to read the paper and respond. There is no need to reply to all 20 questions – responses to any of the questions would be gratefully received, particularly if only some feel relevant to you.

Digitalisation of the justice system is happening at pace, and the behaviours and needs of consumers are changing. This Green Paper is intended to place the Law Society at the forefront of these changes, shaping them to best serve the rule of law, access to justice and legal services consumers and the profession, rather than responding after they have already been made. We hope members will support us in developing these proposals over the coming months.
