Robert Michael Louis Duval - A Tribute From Albion Chambers

It is with the greatest regret and sadness that Chambers has to announce the sudden and unexpected death of Robert Duval, on 13 February 2018.

Rob’s death has been a devastating shock to us all. We are immensely grateful for the numerous messages of sympathy and support that we have received.

Rob was a supremely talented advocate. The skill and dedication with which he conducted his practice inspired so many who saw him at work. Whilst deploying his boundless talents he was always able to maintain a degree of mischief and an inimitable sense of humour.

He was neither selfish nor ambitious and his huge professional achievements were a simple reflection of his inherent skill, hard work, and deep sense of fairness and humanity. Above all, he was the most decent, honourable and generous man who cared deeply about what he did. Albion Chambers will be a much, much, poorer place for his passing.

His dedication to work took a low second place to Rob’s adoration of his family, of whom he was so immeasurably proud. Our love and deepest sympathies are with his wife Caroline and his daughters Sophia, Ellie and Lucy, as they wrestle with this terrible and agonising loss.

BLS provides a valuable role in uniting and promoting the whole of the legal sector across Bristol to benefit both its members and the city. It facilitates collaboration across the sector to ensure that we can all make a difference. More recently BLS has taken a lead on promoting Bristol’s legal brand, encouraging legal and business services talent to come to the city, which in turn attracts clients and inward investment to our thriving and vibrant commercial community. BLS breaks down barriers and brings those in the profession together for the greater good. We are proud of our long-standing association with BLS.

Three things to say about my experience of working with Bristol Law Society. Their central team, council members and general hangers-on are just about the nicest, most generous group of people working in the legal sector today. The numerous events, awards, socials and conferences I’ve had the pleasure to attend over the years have been, without exception, top quality and supremely organised.
